Pinot Noir Estate 2007
The major February frost experienced
in the Sta. Rita Hills reduced the size of the crop,
but the set and subsequent development of fruit, coupled
with cool weather in September, made 2007 an outstanding
vintage for Quinta Santa Rosa Vineyard. The Estate-grown
Pinot Noir was made again this year from our clone
667 block, harvested in its entirety on September 11.
The cool primary fermentation was conducted over 11
days using Assmanshausen yeast. Free-run and press
wines were barreled separately in October using 1/3rd
new French oak, 1/3rd 1-3 years old, and 1/3rd neutral.
Malolactic fermentation was initiated and completed
during the winter. After one racking the wine was bottled
unfined and unfiltered in April, 2009 after 18 months
in barrel. 92 cases produced.

Pinot Noir Estate 2006
Prodigal’s steeply sloping
Quinta Santa Rosa Vineyard is planted exclusively to
Pinot Noir. This bottling consists exclusively of clone
667 from the upper-eastern block. The grapes were harvested
at daybreak, cold soaked for 5 days after de-stemming,
and fermented slowly using a Burgundian yeast. The
free-run and press fractions were barreled separately
(all French oak: 1/3 new, 1/3 1-3 year-old, and 1/3
neutral barrels) for 21 months, blended and bottled
in August 2008, after which the wine was held in the
bottle for 8 months prior to this tasting. The wine
is characterized by a prominent Pinot nose with black-cherry
and berry flavors that are complemented by smooth tannins
and a lingering finish. 181 cases were produced.

Pinot Noir Estate 2005
All grapes were sourced from Prodigal’s
steeply sloping Quinta Santa Rosa Vineyard at the southeastern
end of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. Dijon clones
667 and 777 produced the majority, with approximately
20% coming from vines rooted as cuttings from Cambria’s
Julia’s Vineyard. The vineyard was farmed by
hand by Coastal Vineyard Care Associates. Early-morning
picking was performed in three passes during September.
Primary fermentation was conducted in small lots with
temperature maintained at or near 80ºF. Full malolactic
fermentation was completed subsequently. All French-oak
barrels were used, with one-third of them new, one-third
1-2 years old, and the remaining third neutral oak.
The wine was bottled without fining or filtration in
December 2006 and held for 10 additional months prior
to its release in October, 2007. 187 cases produced.

Pinot Noir Appellation 2007
This blend of wines has been
made from grapes sourced from vineyards in the Sta.
Rita Hills appellation, namely Quinta Santa Rosa (clones
667 and 777), Fiddlestix (clones 115 and 667), Rancho
la Viña (clone 2A) and Rio Vista (clone 2A).
The vineyards were harvested individually during late
September through October. After de-stemming, the berries
were cold soaked for 5-7 days with twice-daily mixing.
Fermentations were conducted using either RC 212 or
Assmanshausen yeast with temperatures maintained under
90º F. Free-run and press wines were barreled
separately using one-third new French Oak, one-third
1-3 years old French Oak and one-third neutral French
Oak barrels. After approximately 18 months in barrel,
the
final blend was bottled without fining or filtering.

Pinot Noir Appellation 2006
Approximately half of the Appellation
Cuvée derives from our own steeply sloping vineyard,
Quinta Santa Rosa. Grapes from both our clone 777 planting,
as well as those from vines rooted as cuttings from
Julia’s Vineyard (Cambria’s), were used.
We also sourced grapes for this elegant cuvée
from Rio Vista and Fiddlestix vineyards (clones 667
and 115, respectively, each approximately 25% of the
total).
