2005 marked the first official vintage of Prodigal Wines – wines fifty years in the making! Harvested in dawn’s early light, the grapes were transported to “the Lompoc Wine Ghetto”, where consulting winemaker Norm Yost managed the vinification. The Pinot Noir was de-stemmed into small open top fermenters and inoculated after a few days of a cool soak to extract color and greatness from the skins. Upon completion of fermentation, the wine underwent secondary malo-lactic fermentation in their French Oak barrels. Aged in barrel for a year, the wine was bottled and received additional cellaring time in the bottle before release in October 2007. We are very pleased that the resulting wine not only speaks of our vineyard, but is a delicious, layered and textural wine.

The Pinot Gris was whole cluster pressed, and fermentation finished in the barrel. Stirred every two months to gain creaminess and complexity, the 2005 Pinot Gris exceeds even our expectations for an Alsatian style wine.
